I Got Wood!

Finally, doing smaller regional races pays off. I race a small Olympic distance race this past Saturday and took 2nd place in the Men's 30-34 Age Group! There were 13 people in the AG, so it wasn't completely empty, but most of the super fast people weren't at this race. Still, it feels good to snag some hardware for finishing in the top 3.

Here's the race breakdown. It wasn't chip timed so the transitions were included in the swim and run. Going off my watch splits for those, since that's more accurate.

Swim: 22:04 ( from my stopwatch )
T1: 1:30
Bike: 1:13:22
T2: 1:00
Run: 43:45

Total: 2:21:53 and 15th overall finisher!

The bike was slower than I'd have liked, mainly due to the fact that it was raining and it was quite hilly. I had to take it easy through the corners, and there were a lot. At this stage of training, I can't afford to get hurt in an avoidable crash. This was also a "C" priority race, so there was nothing on the line for me to need to push it harder.

Because of the top 3 AG finish, I'm also now qualified already for the USAT Age Group Nationals for 2007, which is going to be in Hagg Lake, Oregon on June 30th.

I've got another race this weekend, the Mideast Regional Championship race, which is a higher priority race for me. This course is flatter and faster, and hopefully it won't be raining. I'm going to shoot for a 2:15, which I think I'll be able to get close to. We'll see on Sunday.

After this race, it's nose to the grindstone as I'm into my build-up for Kona now. Lots of long training days in the coming month or so. Bring it on!!!!
